This Friday’s post is just a total animal fest! Links about wildlife, invasive species and an image gallery.

Wildlife and Lead Poisoning
This site by USGS talks about the effects of lead on wildlife and especially waterfowl. A very interesting and informative source.

Zebra & Quagga Mussel
Here is another resource from the USGS with information about the Zebra and Quagga Mussels. Includes: fact sheets, statistics and really cool Google maps that show the distribution of the mussels and is updated daily. A great resource for anyone interested in invasive species.

Animal Science Image Gallery
This image gallery from the American Society of Animal Science is a great resource for anyone studying animal science and/or husbandry. They also accept submissions of photographs, so go and add to the collection.

Have a great weekend!

BioEd Online

17 11 2008

Hi, all. Sorry for the lack of updates. The end of the quarter frenzy has taken me body, but not soul yet. So here is a great resource. I am always happily amazed at the great resources out on the web once you start looking.

BioEd Online
This site has lots of information targeted at instructors and their students. Podcasts, videos, lesson plans, activities and more are located on this site. By Baylor College of Medicine. Don’t you just love great looking websites with reliable information?

Biotech and Microbio

7 11 2008

Well, it is again Friday and I have another pair of great resources for your use.

issues in biotechnology
This is just part of the Action BioScience website, but it is a very good part. Check out the whole website if you have time. It includes articles, podcasts, videos, educator tools, lesson plans, etc. A great resource for teaching students more about biotechnology or any other of the topics (such as biodiversity or genomics) that are also covered on this site.

Microbial Life
This is a website specifically geared toward educators and provides a lot of great material to use all about microbiology. It has both a search feature and a browse feature for its resources. I think this would be a good additional resource for students learning about microbes.

Have a great weekend!
